Weeks 3-4:
Students are learning about professional theatre, including Broadway, Touring and Regional Theatre. They are also learning more specifically about Broadway theatres, their history and New York City. All students will be provided a binder complete with dividers, paper, writing utensils and pocket pouch. Their binder will be used for all teachers within WCSPA. |

Past Units
Elizabethan Theatre:
We are looking at what types of shows would have been seen during Shakespeare's time as well as what that experience would have been like. We are looking at historical documents from the time period. We are also watching video and stopping to discuss how theatres were made and the inherent differences between theatre of the that time compared to watching theatre today.
Broadway:
Studenst learned about what defines a Broadway show vs. and Off-Broadway show. We looked at maps of NYC and the Times Square Area. Some discussion about New York City's history and the forming of the city. Talked about seating in theatres and how it came to be that way.
Introduction to Terminology
Introduction to Shakespeare:
Students took notes on the basic timeline of Shakespeare's life including his involvement and contribution to theatre. Student will need to get notes from another student if they missed classed.
Week 4:
Day 1:
Mostly focused on icebreakers and get-to-know you games. These activities are all in-class with no homework.
Day 2:
Introduction to Theatre History. Notes and discussion about A Chorus Line. Watch documentary on the Making of a Chorus Line and discussed the audition process for Broadway.
Day 3:
Continued in-class Icebreakers and activities
Day 4:
TEAM DAY! An all day immersion in theatre activities combining all 4 levels of the program
Day 5:
Broadway. Students take notes and are given handouts related to Broadway theatre and New York City. An in-class presentation and tour or NYC. Student will read charts to determine various traits of theatre. See below:
